“ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
- 2 Corinthians 5:17
Who We Are
At Victory, there are no perfect people allowed. Jesus says to us, “come as you are,” but he loves us too much for us to stay as we are. We believe that Jesus changes everything for everyone!
We don’t believe the church exists for itself. We believe the church exists to glorify God and expand the Kingdom.
Our Mission
Our mission is the same mission Jesus gave his followers:
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” - Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
Our Vision
Our vision is “Connecting People Back to God.”
We strive to create environments and opportunities that promote and encourage connections that lead people in our church, our community, and around the world into a deeper relationship with God.

Our History
Our story began in 1904 under a humble canvas tent on North Addison Street as a small group of Jesus Followers began meeting together leading to the birth of West Park Christian Church with 50 members. After temporarily holding church services in an old school house and homes, our current church building was completed in 1909. Since then, we have been a community-focused movement of imperfect people following Jesus as He writes His story here.
In 2021, we were given the new name, Victory in the City, with the same heartbeat that began long ago. We are dedicated to empowering youth and cultivating leaders in our community. We believe that life change happens in the context of relationships. All of us are on our own journey. The journey of following Jesus never truly ends. We are only building upon the work God did through those who came before us. We are a family. You belong here. Together, we will continue to write His story.
What We Believe
The Bible
2 Tim. 3:14-17, 2 Peter 1:16-21
The Bible, the Old and New Testament Scriptures, is the uniquely inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God. The Bible is the rule of faith and practice for Christians. We affirm that Scripture is the authoritative revelation from God by which we know God’s will and Christ’s authority. We seek to assert what the Scriptures clearly assert and allow freedom in other cases. We seek to understand divine intent, through authorial intent, and we seek to apply its teaching to the contemporary church and culture.
The Church
1 Peter 2:9-10, Matt. 28:18-20
The Church is the body of Christ on earth, the community of believers throughout the world. Upon surrender to Christ (salvation), a person is added to the Church. In addition, the priesthood of all believers means each Christian is called to be a serving minister. The Church’s mission is the Great Commission.
Humanity & The Fall of Man
Romans 2:23
Human beings were created by God to walk in fellowship with Him. However, all (except Jesus) have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and must rely on God’s grace and forgiveness. Every human from the moment of life (conception) is in the image of God (imago dei), a person to be nurtured, protected, and developed.
Marriage & Sexuality
Gen. 2:24, Ex. 20:14, Lev. 18:22-23, Matt. 19:4-6, Rom. 1:18-31, 1 Cor. 6:9-10, 1 Cor. 6:15-20, 1 Tim. 1:8-11, Jude 1:7, Gen. 1:27, Deut. 22:5
Marriage was established by God and we believe it to be a lifelong, exclusive relationship between one man and one woman and that all intimate sexual activity outside the marriage relationship, whether heterosexual, homosexual, or otherwise, is immoral and therefore sin. We believe that God created the human race male and female and that all conduct with the intent to adopt a gender other than one’s birth gender is immoral and therefore sin.
Salvation
Acts 2:38, Acts 8:12, Acts 10:47-48, Rom. 10:9
Salvation is by God alone through Jesus Christ alone. One accepts Christ as Savior through a conversion process that includes faith, repentance, confession, and baptism. A conversion has not taken place with the absence of one of these elements.
Baptism
Rom. 6:3-4, Acts 2:38, Col. 2:12, Gal. 3:27, 1 Peter 3:21
Baptism is a repentance of sins and public declaration of following Jesus. In baptism a believer is immersed, crucified and buried with Christ, receives forgiveness of sin and the gift of the Holy Spirit, is resurrected and clothed with Christ, and is saved because of God’s free gift of grace received by faith
Communion
1 Cor. 11:17-34, Acts 20:7
Communion is the remembrance of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. The Lord’s Supper is the celebration of the New Covenant, in which the Christian community remembers Christ and weekly celebrates the covenantal relationship they have with Him and with each other.
Spiritual Gifts
1 Peter 4:10, 1 Cor. 12:4-6, Rom 12:4-8
Gifts are given to believers at baptism and are to be used in God’s service. The Body of Christ is a beautiful assembly of Jesus followers all over the world using their unique gifts to bless others and to glorify God. When we pour out our gifts for the benefit of another, we are participating in the redemptive story of God’s Kingdom here on Earth.
Revelation & Judgement
1 Thess. 4:13-18, Rev. 20:11-15
The Final Coming of Jesus is a time when Christ will personally come again as savior and judge of the world. At that time there will be the bodily resurrection of the dead—believers to eternal life with God and unbelievers to eternal judgment. Sin will be no more and believers will live in fellowship with God forever.

Being Fully Engaged at Victory
What does it mean to be “fully engaged” with the mission and work of Victory? Think: Baptism & The 4 G’s
Baptism
Baptism is the public declaration of a life surrendered to Jesus. When you are immersed into the waters of baptism, you receive the gift of salvation, the remission of your sins and the presence of the Holy Spirit. Just as Jesus died, so does your old self. And just as He rose from the dead, so are you risen from the weight of death, made a new person in Christ.
Gathering
Gathering is where we first LEARN what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Every week we have the opportunity to gather together to worship Jesus and hear God’s word. The first followers of Jesus invited others by simply saying “come and see,” and that’s exactly what we are doing too!
Groups
Groups are where you GROW. We were not meant to do life alone. In our groups, Alpha and Omega, we engage the Bible, grow together, and live on mission.
Gamechangers
At Victory, those who SERVE are called Gamechangers. A Gamechanger makes a difference in the lives of our church and the city to build God’s Kingdom through service in multiple areas.
Generosity
At Victory, we GIVE because God gave everything, and our response is to live generously. We are contributors to God’s kingdom, not just consumers. We give so people can worship Jesus in irresistible environments, grow in faith, and serve our city.
